What is the difference between unrefined and refined Shea butter?

After Shea butter is extracted from the Shea nut tree the natural butter is filtered to remove any impurities, resulting in an ultra high quality pure product.  The refined Shea butter also has less odor; this is great for those who do not like the natural nutty Shea butter smell.

Once extracted from the Shea nut, the resulting Shea butter is left completely unrefined.  Because of the lack of refinement, it has the typical odor normally associated with Shea butter; it also allows the butter to keep all of its natural healing properties.
